Introduction
We want to welcome you to our railroad adventure in the Dovetail Games Train Simulator 201x version of the Neuville Williamsburg Railroad ( NWRR ). We have been working on this route since October of 2014 and believe it has progressed nicely. Sure it has been a challenge and we have had some problems that had to work out, but that’s the whole point, to accomplish creating something you enjoy while sorting out the problems to get there. At one point I lost the route to a drive crash and had to start a rebuild, so I decided to offer the route as a club route in conjunction with offering information on route building and other aspects of Train Simulator.
The Route
The route is based in the state of Pennsylvania in the United States and revolves around the before 1960s small freight/passenger railroad theme. There are twelve towns on the approximately 45 realistic miles of mainline track which is of the “Y”point-to-point style track plan. So it is actually three branches that act as one mainline. The central offices and maintenance location is at Johnstown, which is at the center of the route. Neuville is the most northern town on the route, while Williamsburg in the southeast and Douglas in the southwest serve as the southern most towns. Williamsburg and Neuville both connect with Class 1 railroads which are the Pennsylvania Railroad at Neuville and Norfolk & Western Railroad at Williamsburg.
The Route Function
The main freight carried on the line is coal from the mountains of Pennsylvania which is mined in Douglas and processed in Neuville for distribution to the Class 1 roads for shipment to customers, like other railroads, power and steel companies. Dairy, beets, brewery, and cattle are some of the other commodities serviced on the NWRR. There are also daily scheduled passenger services that allow the local public to travel the area. All towns on the NWRR have at least some form of depot, and there are some that are more or less roughly created whistle stops, such as Kohl Valley and Nettle Ridge.
Notes
As of the date of this posting, the route has been stripped down to track and terrain and the Neuville Yards have been redone to accommodate two or three more tracks and laid out as to have three separate yards within a narrow strip of land. One yard will be to accommodate the traffic received from the Pennsylvania Railroad, another for car classification and storage of NWRR rolling stock, and the third for the coal and aggregate traffic on the NWRR. Much of the assets used so far are from several payware routes, like the VNHRR, B&LE, Penn Coal, HSC, Britkits 2-8-2 La, GreatNortherner, and selected freeware assets. The idea is to keep the assets down to as few Provider/Product situations as possible.
Progressive Videos of the Route
These videos show the route as it progressed, but the route no longer has the scenery files as I had lost them in a drive crash, plus too many Provider assets were used. The route is pretty much bare bones now, and the terrain and track are in place.
Current state of the route.
