Non-DTG Tools
To cut to the chase, one will need to find many tools to work with, some come with the Train Simulator 201x application and others come from talented programmers in the community. So, from what I gather, these are the tools you may need that are outside the TS201x application. Some may require you to buy a key to make them fully functional. And, requirement of use of these tools is based on how deeply you want to go into TS201x.
That should do it for now, if you need more then you will need to research the tools necessary for what you are doing in the many forums and at the Engine Driver page of DTG/Train Simulator.

- A good text editor like Notepad, which comes with most Windows based computers, or an editor like Notepad++ . This one you will definitely need as it is used for creating .xml blueprint files for editing and control of different aspects of the simulator.
- RSBin Tool - for editing of images and other files that run through the Serz file editor. This program is used for conversion of .dds files to use with your creations.
- RW_Tools - a deep file and folder editor related to Train Simulator. This one you may need to handle some of the preliminary files and folders.
- An image editor like Photoshop, PSP, Paint, Gimp, or Corel for editing images for processing when model creating. Some are freeware and others are high end commercial products, most have deep learning curves.
- Serz.exe - which is found in your root Train Simulator folder. For converting .bin files and others to other formats for editing.
- BlueprintEditor2.exe - which is found in your root Train Simulator folder. For creating .xml blueprint files for editing and control of different aspects of the simulator.
- Utilities.exe - for use with opening the BlueprintEditor, opening the Source Folder where all your personal products for TS2015 are stored, installing and creating packages involved with TS2015 assets and routes, Localisation for access with scenarios, and language settings.
